Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how GridSpec: Global EV, Solar & Battery Compatibility Lab (“GridSpec”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you visit gridspechub.com (the “Site”). We designed the Site so that you can use every calculator without creating an account or giving us your name or email address.
1. Information we collect
- Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and to correct our data.
- Automatically collected technical data. Like every website, our hosting and content-delivery providers process server logs containing your IP address, browser type, referring page, pages requested and timestamps. These logs are used for security, abuse prevention and performance, and are retained for a limited period.
- Preferences stored on your device. The Site stores your chosen electrical region (US/NA or UK/EU/AU) in your browser’s local storage so the calculator remembers it. This value never leaves your device.
- Information collected by advertising and affiliate partners, described in sections 3 and 4.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and the calculator inputs you choose (hardware selections, distances, solar wattage) are processed entirely in your browser.
2. How we use information
- To operate, secure and improve the Site and its calculations;
- To respond to messages and correction requests;
- To display advertising that funds the Site, and to measure affiliate referrals;
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Sharing with advertising partners for personalised advertising may qualify as “selling” or “sharing” under certain US state laws; see section 7.
3. Google AdSense, the DoubleClick DART cookie and third-party advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the Site. Google’s use of the DoubleClick DART cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Learn more at How Google uses cookies in advertising and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- You can opt out of many third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices (US), youradchoices.ca (Canada) and www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).
- Other third-party ad networks that serve ads through Google may also place and read cookies. A list of Google’s certified ad technology providers is available within the consent message shown to EEA, UK and Swiss visitors.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the privacy and cookie settings link presented by that message. If you decline, Google may still serve non-personalised or limited ads, which use cookies only for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
4. Affiliate links
Some outbound links — for example to Amazon or to power-station manufacturers — are affiliate links marked with rel="sponsored". When you click one, the
destination site may set its own cookie to attribute a purchase to GridSpec. We receive no personal information about you or your purchase beyond aggregated
commission reports. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
5. Cookies and how to control them
GridSpec itself does not set tracking cookies. Cookies on the Site are placed by Google and its advertising partners (section 3) and, after you click an affiliate link, by the destination merchant. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings; blocking cookies will not prevent the calculators from working.
6. Your rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
- request correction or erasure of your data;
- restrict or object to processing, including processing for direct marketing;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (for example, personalised advertising cookies);
- lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
Our legal bases are: consent (personalised advertising cookies), legitimate interests (site security, server logs, non-personalised advertising and responding to enquiries) and legal obligation. Where data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, our providers rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Your rights under the CCPA / CPRA and other US state privacy laws
If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not discriminate against anyone who exercises these rights.
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings and the DAA WebChoices tool, or email us with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share” and we will process the request.
- Global Privacy Control: we honour GPC browser signals as a valid opt-out request where required by law.
- Categories collected in the last 12 months: identifiers (IP address, cookie IDs) and internet activity (pages viewed), used for the purposes in section 2 and disclosed to advertising and hosting providers.
8. Data retention and security
Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and diagnostics. Emails are kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and maintain a record of corrections. The Site is served exclusively over HTTPS, and we use reputable infrastructure providers with industry-standard security controls.
9. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for adults planning electrical installations. It is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our services or legal requirements change. The effective date above shows when it was last revised.
11. Contact
For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email [email protected] or use our contact page. We respond within 30 days (45 days for US state-law requests).
